# The Chat Command

### Global Chat

Global chat is visible to all online players. You can set this as your default chat channel using the `/chat global` command. If you want to send a message in global chat without changing your default chat channel you can do so using the `/chat global <message>` command.

### Local Chat

Local chat is only visible to nearby players. You can set this as your default chat channel using the `/chat local` command. If you want to send a message in local chat without changing your default chat channel you can do so using the `/chat local <message>` command.

### Group Chat

Group chat is only visible to players in a specific group. You can create a new group using the `/group create` command and add players to your group using the `/group invite` command. You can use the `/chat group` command to change your default chat channel to your current group, which means that your messages will only be visible to players who are also in your group. If you want to send a message to your group without changing your default chat channel you can do so using the `/chat group <message>` command or the `/group chat <message>` command.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://about.foundationcraft.com/server-commands/the-chat-command.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
