Foundation Craft is the result of many years of research, design, implementation, and execution by the server owner and staff team. The project was inspired by many incredible games and plugins and servers and it has grown and flourished thanks to our members and the many incredible volunteers on our staff team. This page documents significant server events, history, updates, and milestones.
Foundation Craft was inspired by many old-school Minecraft servers including Obsidian Craft, MassiveCraft, and 2b2t. The server was also inspired by plugins such as Essentials, Towny, Factions and many others. The server was also inspired by multiplayer online games with skills systems and role-playing features such as Runescape and World of Warcraft. The server owner vanquesh was particularly inspired by old-school Runescape when he was designing the features and gameplay mechanics for Foundation Craft. During his childhood vanquesh loved playing Runescape with his friends, leveling up his skills, going on quests, and exploring immersive online worlds. These experiences had a profoundly positive impact on his life which inspired him to create this server.
This project has been in the works for a long time. As a former server owner, vanquesh is well aware how difficult it is to create and maintain a great Minecraft server. There are so many challenges right out of the gate: the server must accommodate a diverse demographic of players by providing a wide range of features including both safe and dangerous environments with various risks and rewards, must protect players from online harassment and inappropriate behavior, must ensure a competitive and sustainable server economy, and must keep players engaged and challenged while fostering a safe, fun, and fair gameplay environment. Sophisticated software systems are necessary to provide these features as the server grows and scales to support an ever-growing community of players.
One of the main challenges for Minecraft servers is keeping all plugins up-to-date and making sure all the server software is compatible and working together properly. This is a very difficult thing to do when you are using multiple different plugins created by different developers. After learning to program, vanquesh set out on one of his longtime goals of building a new kind of Minecraft server from the ground up with a custom plugin to provide all of these necessary features.
Foundation Craft is powered by a custom Java plugin called Foundation which was designed and implemented by the server owner vanquesh in the years leading up to the public launch. The goal of Foundation is to facilitate multiplayer gameplay in the most intuitive and enjoyable way possible.
Foundation provides an immersive MMORPG-like experience for all players with highly-integrated survival, economy, social, combat, role-playing and land management features. Foundation is a highly sophisticated software system which provides the server significant technological advantages by giving the server full control over all custom gameplay features and gameplay mechanics. The plugin helps enforce server rules, protect claimed land, and facilitate fair and competitive gameplay.
After years of design and development, Foundation Craft was officially released to the public on January 1, 2023. The server launched as soon as vanquesh was confident that Foundation was capable of providing a safe, fun, and fair multiplayer experience with a competitive and sustainable economy and comprehensive set of features which cater to a wide demographic of players.
All four server worlds were generated on Minecraft version 1.19 providing players access to the new terrain generation released in the Caves and Cliffs update including beautiful mountains, deeper and more intricate caves, and new biomes such as Mangrove Swamps and Lush Caves. Since then, the server has been updated and the worlds expanded with even more new terrain generation.
On February 6, 2023, Madhin became the first player to slay the Ender dragon and obtain the first dragon egg on Foundation Craft. Madhin would go on to showcase his prized possession at his settlement Abuzaka. This remained the one and only dragon egg on the server for nearly six months until The End Reset Event which reset The End and created a second dragon egg.
Madhin first joined on February 6, the same day that he obtained the dragon egg. He is not only the first player to slay the Ender dragon, he is also the first player to obtain an elytra, the first player to create a level 10 settlement, and the first player to obtain 100K emeralds.
On February 19, 2023, the server hit 1,000 total players marking a significant milestone less than two months after the public launch. Congratulations to MinerRaid999 for being the 1,000th player to join!
As the server grew, it became clear that player markets were not going as planned. Players were initially able to create markets in their settlements and spawn villagers in their markets, but for technical reasons there were limits on how many markets could be created. To solve this problem and others the server replaced player-owned markets with shops on May 11, 2023. Shops allow players to trade emeralds with other players using chests and signs, as documented here.
Prior to adding shops, GhostofCarrot and Trityix created such financially profitable homes and markets that they became two of the most wealthy players on the server just shortly after joining.
On June 14, 2023, the server was updated to support Minecraft version 1.20. This new version included new terrain generation and loot which was made available to players by expanding the world border in all three Wilderness worlds. On July 17, after the new chunks were pre-generated for performance, the borders were expanded providing access to the new Cherry Grove biome.
On July 22, 2023, the server re-opened End portals and provided players access to a brand new End world containing a new dragon egg and un-looted End cities during The End Reset Event. Prior to this event End portals were temporarily disabled, The End world was deleted, and a new End world was created and pre-generated for performance. During this event players raced to obtain the second dragon egg on the server.
The second dragon egg was obtained by okaybro with an assist from Madhin. The event was absolutely crazy: with non-stop player deaths and emotions running high, the server hit an all-time high of 42 concurrent players shortly after the event began. The server plans to host this event once per year, which means there will be one new dragon egg created on the server each year.
On September 7, 2023, Foundation Craft was verified by Mojang as compliant with the End User License Agreement (EULA) and Monetization Usage Guidelines (MUG) which allowed the server to be awarded the Builder's Benchmark Badge on the new Official Minecraft Server List.
On September 23, 2023, the server started building a new spawn location at Settlement #26. The previous spawn location at Settlement #3 featured a massive obsidian fortress with a detailed interior, but many players expressed interest in a more bright, colorful, cheery spawn location featuring nature. After lots of feedback from players we finally had a vision for something better.
The new spawn locations features an obsidian spawn platform designed by vanquesh many years ago as well as homes, markets, gardens, a legislature building, and a courthouse all surrounded by a beautiful mountain range with snowy slopes and icy peaks.
On November 24, 2023, Foundation Craft was awarded the Alpha Supporters Badge on the new Official Minecraft Server List and joined the Alpha Supporters group to help the team at GamerSafer continue to test and improve all of their related software projects.
On October 2, 2023, the server hit 10,000 total players marking a significant milestone less than one year after the public launch. Congratulations to Prokay for being the 10,000th player to join the server!
On February 22, 2024 the server announced a new world called The Arena which allows players to engage in combat without losing their items or experience when they fight. Players can also challenge other players to a one-on-one duel in The Arena which other players on the server are able to spectate. Players can use the /challenge
command to challenge other players to a duel. The duel will begin one minute after both players accept the terms. The winner of the duel will obtain the head of the player they kill, the cost of which is paid by the player that gets killed.
On July 14, 2024 the server hosted our first ever PvP Tournament in The Arena! Six of our best PvPers competed in the event: East, Wild, vsamuel, ePH, Fritos, and DeathTrap. Half of those players made it to the next round: Wild, vsamuel, and DeathTrap. Wild and DeathTrap faced off in the final round for a duel which lasted nearly 45 minutes. Congratulations to DeathTrap for winning the tournament! The prize for first place was revealed after the event to be the head of the server owner. This means that DeathTrap became the first player to obtain vanquesh's head.
On July 16, 2024 Lotus_RT became the first player to obtain level 100 or above in all 10 skills! Congratulations to Lotus on this extremely difficult and impressive accomplishment. While leveling up his skills, Lotus provided feedback which the server used to further improve the skills system.
On September 8, 2024 the server hosted our first-ever Wilderness Reset event! Prior to this event all three Wilderness worlds were deleted and re-generated on Minecraft version 1.21. At the start of this event players raced to find an End portal and kill the Ender dragon to obtain the new dragon egg. Congratulations to FritosAreBad for obtaining the third dragon egg on Foundation Craft!
